A Paper-Piecing Project
Our original Spinning Squares Pillow pattern is fun to sew and makes an attractive addition to any room! The pattern includes directions on how to make the finished pillow with a split back. The split back makes it easy to insert a pillow form. In addition, this pattern includes ready-to-go patterns sheets so you can start making your block right away!

If the pillow doesn't thrill you, the pattern makes a standard 12-1/2" paper-pieced block - just the right size for a traditional pieced quilt! Make every block with different colors to create a sampler quilt, or use coordinating colors for an overall matched look. Need another block? No problem, just make four more copies of the pattern sheet and you're ready to go!
FINISHED SIZE:
The finished Spinning Squares block is 12-1/2" x 12-1/2".
The completed Spinning Squares pillow is 16" x 16".

Note: This pattern is also a good one for beginning paper-piecers. However, while all of the instructions needed to make the Spinning Squares pillow are included, the pattern does NOT include basic instructions on how to do the paper-piecing technique. If you need instructions on the technique, refer to our How to Paper-Piece article. The article gives you a pattern for a simple 4-inch block so that you can learn as you go by paper-piecing along with the instructions.
Materials required:
A fat quarter of each color is enough to make more than one block. One additional fat quarter of the background color is enough for the back of the pillow. Fabric colors required:
1/4 yd (FQ) - dark color, outer square
1/4 yd (FQ) - light color, outer square
1/4 yd (FQ) - dark color, inner square
1/4 yd (FQ) - light color, inner square
1/4 yd (FQ) - star points
1/2 yd (2 FQs) - background

While any seven fat quarters (6 different plus one duplicate for the back of the pillow) can be used for our Spinning Squares Pillow pattern, we have put together some matched fabric kits using our 100% cotton novelty fabrics.
