Fat Quarters are a popular measurement in quilting. A fat quarter is still a quarter of a yard of fabric just cut differently.

Normally, a quarter of a yard gives you a piece of fabric that is about 9-1/2” from selvage to selvage (about 9-1/2” x 44”).

A fat quarter is a half-yard cut that’s then cut in half. This gives you a piece of fabric about 18” x 22” so it’s still a quarter yard of fabric, but in a much more usable shape.
